The library is dated since 1840 after the donation of “Konstantinos Agathofron Nikolopoulos”. It was just then that the books in 47 boxes left the 6th floor of 12 Castiglione str. in Paris, after they were delivered to the Mayor of Andritsaina, Konstantinos Zareifopoulos and the later Minister of Education Charalampos Christopoulos (also coming from Andritsaina). They were transported by boat in Nafplion and from there by animals in Andritsaina, capital of mountainous Olympia. For 39 years the books remained stored in the small church of St. Barbara. In 1875 the construction of the school-houses began as planned by Miltiadis Kanelopoulos, Engineer and Professor of the school of army cadets, in a Π shape with its N.E. side open, funded by a panhellenic fund-raising and the donation of Angelos Gianikessis, Greek Envoy to Trieste.
The opening of the building took place in 1879 whereupon the Library was housed at the West side of the first floor.
In 1932 the N.E. side of the building was built and the building took its final square shape. At this side the Library was housed constituting as a whole an Educational Center of the major region for 150 years.
Since 1998 it is housed in a neoclassical building next to the historical High school of Andritsaina.
